3rd Interview - help!

Hi there, I'm seeking guidance!

I recently applied for a job for a senior management position and was successful in the 1st interview being invited back for a 2nd including a presentation. I was advised that i'd find out within a week.

Yesterday, one day after the 2nd interview, i received a call from the comapnies HR manager advising they really liked me and another person and could i could back next week for an informal chat.

At the end of the 2nd interview i should add, they advised that hours would include 3 sats a month instead of the 'occassional' sat that i had been advised at interview one. When they asked how interetsed in the job i was, i said very but that being honest, the 3 sats a month would be an issue.

Surely if they liked both myself & the other candidate and i'm saying hours are an issue, you'd just employ the other equally favoured candidate?? I dont want to look too much into this, but thoughts around what this informal chat could be about would be warmly welcomed. Thanks all.

The probably want to see how well they think you will each fit in to the team and to the business. If they haven't told you that your comment on hours is a problem for them, go and see what they say. You still have the chance to turn it down if they pick you. But the hours may be negotiable, or they may be thinking of seeing what leeway you might have (possibly for the right inducement?).

This is your opportunity to discuss things like salary and the hours in detail. It is also your opportunity to find out as much information as you need about the company to enable yo to make a decision about whether or not you want to work there.

If you're not willing to work 3 Saturdays per month, then decide how many you would be willing to work, and make sure you discuss this with them. You need to leave you leave with both sides knowing exactly what is on the table. They clearly like you, and are seriously considering you for the position. You may find that the hours are negotiable, and this is the time to find out.

100% talk to them about the hours. Not saying that you need to barge in and word one talk about them its just if they are a problem it is best that they and you know now. If you are right person they may be able to work around this . They equally may not and it is not fair to you or them if you take a job and then have to leave soon after. Training, etc costs money. I know I would prefer to know and at least then they can decide.

    P.s Good luck

If you were told at the first interview that it was an 'occasional saturday' then it's likely that the other candidates were too. So it may not be a case of they have two options, one happy with the hours and one not.... it could well be that everyone that's made it this far is less than thrilled with the proposed hours.

All you can do is go along with a good idea of where your limits are and see what they say.

If you have an issue with the change from 'occasional Saturday' to '3 out of 4 Saturdays' it's entirely possible that the other candidate has similar concerns. It's apparent that the other candidate isn't a clear front runner or they wouldn't be getting you back in.

A similar thing happened to me and in the end I wasn't offered the job. The other candidate was able to be more flexible with their hours. Doesn't mean that's the same with you though!
This could mean anything. Maybe they like you both but want the opinion of another staff member to help them decide? You are still in the race but if the hours really are a deal breaker, mention it. Would you still want the job if it was 3 in 4 Saturdays? You don't want to be unhappy from the start. However maybe its worth the sacrifice, only you know that. Good luck though.
