Bumping this up. Unfortunately I don't know.0

Well if you go and don't come back for 6 years you will be debt free without paying anything, of course i'm not recommending that sort of thing but still0

Obviously Hypothetically (sorry For The Bad Spelling) Speaking What Exactly Does That Mean Are Debts Written Off??0

dj is referring to the debts being statute barred if you stop paying and they don't contact you for 6 years. This is obviously assuming they can't contact you while you are over there. It also excludes mortgages, for which the term is 12 years not 6. I certainly would not recommend doing this, as, though the debt would be unenforceable, it will stick around on your record for a long time and other companies (even ones in America) would be less inclined to give you credit.0

I Guess Its Not The Best Idea To Run Away!! I Suppose What I Really Need To Know Is Does It Affect Visa / Green Card Etc I Know In Australia They Look Into Your Finances And Was Wondering If They Did The Same In The States0

Yes, they do. On my green card application (back in 1995) I had to declare that I was debt free in my home country. I suppose you could always lie, but I wouldn't recommend it; the INS are not known for their sense of humour.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

i was hoping you wouldn't say that its really difficult to know what to do for the best i dont want to mess up the future completely however cannot carry on like this .. a DMP with payplan seems like a good idea but with the prospect of a job abroad for my husband i dont want to jeopardise it:eek:0
