Applying for permanent jobs knowing I'll be leaving in 4 months

Options
I didn't want to do this and haven't yet, but how bad is it if I apply for a permanent job knowing I'll only be there about 4 months. I know it's wasting their time/money/resources however there is not a great deal of temp jobs around that are suitable for me (Need full time hours and ideally something I haven't already got on my CV).
Some of the jobs only require GCSEs and I'll have a degree so I suppose they'll be suspicious of my application anyway and may not interview me.

Has anyone done this? and not felt bad about it?

  • What will you be doing in 4 months?

I've never taken a permanent job knowing I'm going to leave after 4 months, but have taken them knowing I'll leave once something better comes along.

When I took my first full time permanent job I had an interview somewhere else a week after being there. In my second permanent job I had an interview elsewhere around 3 months later. I didn't feel bad at all about it, I did the job I needed to and that's all that mattered.

I'll be moving 200 miles away to do a Masters at university. I need a full time job over summer to save money. Just most temp jobs are either part time hours or not very long lasting and I'd rather get stuck into 1 job for 4 months than do 2 or 3.

Go for the permanent job. Sadly there is no room for loyalty or long term concern any more. You will have no job security until you have been with the company for 2 years so they could just as easily let you go after 4 months.
    Sorry, but that's today's reality.

Yes there is loyalty in firms and not only mine.

You work for me, I expect it to be a long term thing, there's always a change of circumstances or on either side a reason why someone new doesn't work out, but that's the exception. Around 80% of my staff stay till they retire.

How do you really know this?

I can recall starting a temp job in Jan 2015 for 4 weeks, I left 4 months later. It wasn't a busy role I remember of a Friday I'd sit there just churning paper over - while we still have the time of day for each other turns out it was best thing that could have happened they reviewed the position and after my 4 months then took someone on part time.

Additionally I've also turned up to 6 month tempo jobs to find out truth not been told - recall the time when I learnt someone had in fact lost their entire team as new manager and the position was highly likely to go perm when it sure wasn't on my agenda.

    We're all just passing through.
