Mumsnet Review?

Just a quick question about Mumsnet book review wins. I don't want to sound complicated but I've just received an unexpected copy of The Escape by C L Taylor. There were two comps posted that I can find, both posted by Lakshmi7 and both finishing a couple of days apart at the start of this month- one was Mumsnet reviews and one was from Fabulous magazine. The thing is, as I don't know which I won, I don't know whether to review it or not. Can anyone who has won with Mumsnet in the past remember whether they let you know you've won or if there is a list of winners somewhere?

And I know it is the wrong thread but many thanks to Laks whichever comp it is- it looks right up my street.

I won a book from mumsnet last month, the book arrived unexpectedly, but then about a week later I had an email telling me I'd won and should have received the book by now, and asking for feedback.

There was a link in the email to the feedback thread that they wanted the review to be posted on.

Thanks so much- that is exactly what I needed to know. I'll wait and see if I get an email then. I didn't want to try and review it only to find out it wasn't Mumsnet I'd received it from!
  • Hi Deb

I have won a few books from Mumsnet - I have always had a email before the book arrived although one occasion the book arrived the following day. They also usually, but not always, have a comp slip in mentioning Mumsnet.

I won a different book from Fabulous magazine a month ago - they emailed me to say I had won and that it would arrive within 28 days. It still hasn't come and they haven't replied to the email I sent on Sunday.

Don't know if this info helps but well done on your win and enjoy the book.

Thanks Booklover. No comp slip or email as yet so I'm going to hold fire for a bit and see if I get an email. I'll only review if I get a specific email from Mumsnet telling me to, then I can't get it wrong (hopefully)!
Hope you get your Fabulous book soon- I'm waiting on a couple of book wins from a few weeks ago too. Sometimes when it is "only" a book they seem a bit slack with sending it, I find.

If it were me I'd have a look at the Mumsnet review thread for the book as it might not be limited to just those Mumsnet members who won. It might be open to anyone who has read the book and wants to leave a comment? And don't they have a random prize draw for anyone leaving a review? You might win something else :-)
Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!

Yes Purple - you are right - anyone can review the books - not just winners and it is a random draw.

If you have won with them, Sorcha from Mumsnet usually sends a reminder to check if you have got the book and asking for a review when you have time.

I've won a couple of times doing reviews for Mumsnet.

They always offer good prizes, and worth spending time doing reviews.

This is the thread to post on when you've finished reading.

Many thanks all. I didn't know if anyone could leave a review- I thought it was just those who'd received the book, hence the prize draw incentive. I didn't want to leave one when I wasn't supposed to and be expelled from Mumsnet :rotfl:!! Now I think of it, it seems sensible that anyone could review but although I've been leaving reviews on Goodreads for a while this is my first Mumsnet one and I wanted to stick to protocol. :)

Thanks so much for finding me the link, libra10, that's really good of you :A
