We all know how nerve racking it can be when having someone walk round your house. Its a new build around 2 year old. The company is countrywide and the mortgage company is HSBC. Whats interesting is a house 2 doors down was bought using HSBC and I am using the same figure as the house was sold for so hopefully we should be fine. Ill have that printer out ready for him arriving. We are in the skegness area.
Obviously clean round and make all the rooms look spacious but are there any more tips? Will he want to look in every storage cupboard going etc? And measure? Or is it just a quick walk round to see the house isnt in bad repair etc

They'll basically be checking that the house is still standing and taking a rough measurement. They're not interested in your cleaning abilities or in how spacious the house looks.0

I'll put it this way: not all mortgage valuations even involve entering the house.0

Ours was just valued by Nationwide and they didn't even do a drive by. Their system had valued it at £242,000 based on how much we bought it for 4 years ago. I told them we'd done major renovation work and that I thought (hoped!!) the house would be worth more than that now. We needed it to be worth x amount to get an LTV of 50-60%. So I did some hard sums in my head (if y is 60% of x, how much is x, where x is the value of the house and y is the amount outstanding), and came up with a figure of £285,000, which they accepted without question.
I actually think it's worth more than that, but hey, we're not selling it to them - so long as we get the LTV down, I'm happy.
Agree with other posters - they're not buying it, just valuing it. All I would add is - don't make it difficult for them to see your house as it's meant to be.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
