Sorry if this has been asked before, but: I have three 'new' bathrooms (re-done 3 years ago) and three nice loos. But despite my regular cleaning the plastic seats are becoming stained underneath, especially the edges of the seats. They are expensive ones and I have tried every cleaning substance and technique known to woman. I am about to try abrasive things, which will make it worse in the long run - can anyone suggest anything I might not have tried, please ? The alternative is 3 new loo seats which would be expensive....TIA.

Cover with kitchen towel soaked in bleach?0

yes loo seats get stained. Loo cleaners are bad on loo seats and so are natural body fluids and unless the seat is cleaned underneath each and every time it is used, then it will happen. I now leave my loo seat up all the time, especially when I use powerful cleaners. The gases rise and hit the seat and discolour it. Mine have lasted three years now and there is no staining. The ones previous lasted three years and I had to replace them0

I've had this happen but on closer inspection it was actually the bleach and too much scrubbing that had cause the top layer of the seat to come off and showed the material underneath. I was carefull to chose a better material of seat next time. Seems better so far.0

Needn't be expensive - these ones from Argos are fantastic replacements and only cost £5.99 each0 -
I agree with Kittie . I also think plastic tends to discolour over time .
I tried a lovely white wooden seat new england style a few years ago which never showed the problem but eventually began to swell and a replacement did the same after some time .
I am about to get a plastic one from Scr*wf*x which has been recommended by a few plumbers and has good ratings by the trades on the site . I'll see how that goes .
I gave up on expensive versions years ago not much difference to be honest .
One thing I never do is use bleach . I prefer a microfibre cloth wrung out in warm water with a few drops of a good essential oil in the water .
Tea tree , Lavender or many of the oils will see off the germs .

I haven't tried it on loo seats but you could try Barkeeper's Friend. It seems to work for everything else!0

This is only true if you use them at strong enough concentrations. IIRC, 4% tea tree (minimum) is what you need for that to work. That's probably more than most people would ever use.0 -

Hi Slinky
I've just had to look on the website as the long list of jobs to do is not to hand .
I don't know how to do links so Soft Close with quick release .
Code 2407k .
Haven't tried it before but recommended verbally by trades , good reviews online and the fact it's a known favourite of landlords are what made me choose it .
The fact you can remove it for cleaning and it is easy to fit clinched it for me .
I will be ordering in a couple of weeks due to both the holiday and working out which other items to add to my order to make up the free next day delivery which is the old style in me coming to the fore .
I have been ordering from that company for many years with no problems - they even collected radiators at no charge and refunded me although I had measured a few wrongly and they didn't have those sizes needed to exchange .
No connection to them , it works well for me and other family members .
HTH
