Minimum wage should i get it or not??

Hi .can anyone in the know about wages help .i work in a playgroup that is open term time only we are paid 8.55 an hour this is spread over year so dont go without pay in school hols when shut . Hol entitlement is all included but it works out at roughly 7.22 an hour . Ob min wage is now 7.50 an hour . Should it go up or not or is 8.55 spread over year allowed?

    The uk holiday entitlement is 12.07% of all hours worked. So if your being paid holiday your hourly wage is £7.63 an hour. That's because if your add 12.07% to £7.63 an hour then that equals £8.55.

    So your being paid just above minimum wage so it's all legal.
  • You don't actually get 'paid' for all the time the playgroup is closed, so your pay shouldn't simply be divided by 52 weeks when working out minimum wage. It's spread out across the year so that you get regular payments which makes it easier to budget, not because you're being paid for school holidays. You get paid for the 38 or 39 weeks a year that you actually work, plus the holiday entitlement that is outlined in the post above.

    I used to work in a school and we got paid for the 39 weeks we had to attend, plus an extra 7 weeks. Some of the 8 weeks were holiday entitlement and some were 'extra' hours, which were floating and meant we used them for things like parents evenings and after school clubs that were outside of our usual hours. So we got paid for 46 weeks a year, but it was evenly divided up between 52 weeks so that we didn't have a month and a half without pay.
