Wedding loan rejected - how to improve?

Is it just me or do others wonder about the wisdom of setting wedding dates 18 months or more into the future and also spending a fortune on the "wedding" ?
My local church had 21 weddings on its books at the beginning of the year some booked for September 2019. Now 1 has been postponed and 4 cancelled.
The most important bit about the "wedding" is the vows.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
We earn a similar amount to you, £35,000 and £28,000
We're getting married in June next year and currently saving £400 a month towards it (both of our families are helping out a bit too, is this in option for you?)
The wedding saving is on top of paying out £700 a month mortgage, £860 a month childcare and £400 mortgage overpayment.
I would really recommend saving instead of getting a loan for a wedding0 -
Our wedding cost around £12k last year and that wasn't a 'showy' wedding but it was a big family event, we did the whole wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast and a disco and evening hog roast with various other buffet food so it all adds up. The 3 course wedding breakfast was £55pp so there's £3300 alone, £600 hog roast, £1500 wedding dress, £1000 on wedding rings, £1500 venue, £800 photographer, DJ & Pianist £500, Groomsmen suits hire £500, bridesmaid dress £400....then you have other decorations, the wedding cake etc.....it's insane!! but it was an amazing day and those memories of me and my wife and seeing all my distant relatives....priceless!!...well £12k...but you know what i mean ;o)
We saved hard for 18 months and we were left with great memories and no debt
Plan your wedding for 18 months time, which gives you plenty of time to plan out the details. Most suppliers ask for a small initial deposit with the full amount due on or just before the wedding so you don't need the loan now!!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I just want to wish the OP all the luck in the world. Extremely upsetting I imagine that family are choosing to hold beliefs which live in the past and refusing to celebrate what should and WILL be an extremely amazing emotional day for both of you. Congratulations for finding someone you love and cherish.
