I did one on the phone and yes it does mean you have to do maths test. I was, however, allowed to use a pencil and paper (but not a calculator). To be fair, so long as you have a basic understanding of maths then you wont have a problem. They aren't looking for genius' (have you seen some of the branch assistants?) they just want to make sure you have a firm understanding of basic maths. If I remember correctly (it was a few years ago) they asked things like:
If a customer deposits 130 and then withdraws 75, what will their balance be?
If a customer has a balance of £3400 and writes two cheques, one for £690 and one for £2900, do they have enough funds to cover them and what will the resulting balance be?
As an aside I passed the interview and was asked to go to a 1 to 1 but declined because they couldn't guarantee which branch I would be working in (I know, I know, but I was only a youngster at the time).:A:A:A:A:A:A0 -

I had a face to face interview with RBS (and was turned down )
They'll ask you a series of questions like "describe a time when you tried hard to meet a target but failed", "how did this feel", etc.
Just like in the telephone interview (I presume, because RBS asked me those types of question in the telephone interview too).
These type of questions are called competency based or sometimes behavioural.0 -
