Credit Check requested by Westminster Collection

Hi all, questions time from me again…

I have ordered some silver coins from Westminster Collection last week. I used my credit card to pay for the order in full online. 3 days later, I received a letter from Westminster Collection saying they want my permission to perform a credit check on me. They argue it is due to the high value of the order and I am a new customer.

First of all, I am not a new customer. I placed an order with them in 2014. Secondly, the silver coins that I ordered this time cost me £540.00. I used my credit card to pay the order in full. I am not applying for a loan or credit from Westminster Collection, so why do they need to do a credit check on me?

I therefore wonder if any of you know what this credit check from Westminster Collection is about.

Many thanks in advance!

  • Seems a bit odd, and I am sure you will have unticked the instalments box on your order form. I know on big orders they take the first part from your credit card if you apply for extended payment but if you pay in full they are only meant to take the payment on dispatch of the goods. On the down side, please google 'Westminster Collection scams' and be very careful of the company as there may be a suggestion of unethical behaviour following your order which you will need to weigh up.

Just thought to give an update on this thread.

My advice to you all is to stay away from this company, Westminster Collection, at all costs.

After I was told by the company they needed to perform a credit check on me, I told them I would not give a permission to do so, as a result I had to cancel the £540 order. I asked one of their staff if that meant I would not be allowed to place any orders, he said I could still place orders with his company, but the orders would have to be in smaller value.

Based on that conversation, I went ahead to order 3 silver coins which came to £180, a third of the previous order. I received an email from the company to confirm they received my order, but the order disappeared on my online account after a couple of days, so I took it they still limited me to place an order even it is a smaller value of order.

Few days later, I decided to phone them to attempt placing the same order, the chap on the phone took my credit card details and put an order through for me, I thought it was all good. A week later, I received an email from this company saying my order would be despatched shortly, but then yesterday I received a written letter from the company saying they have cancelled my order due to the items are out of stock. I now look on my calendar, I placed the online order over 2 weeks ago, then a telephone order few days after the online order. It took the company over 2 weeks to inform me they don't have the items. To be honest, I doubt very much they had the items in stock in the first place. So they have been advertising and selling things that they do not have, I guess a letter to Standard Advertising Agency is my next step.

To summary the whole experience with Westminster Collection, I placed 4 separate orders with them past 4 weeks, they cancelled 3 of them and I was forced to cancel one.

Westminster Collection is truly a complete waste of time, they don't allow high value of order and they don't have the items in stock to trade. Like I said, avoid this company at all costs!!
