Rail travel newby

Can anyone help me with the cheapest rail travel from Milton Keynes to London? I have tried the split ticketing tool but can't get a cheaper deal. It's costing a fortune.

Many thanks

    Hi,

    need more information.

When are you travelling, dates, times, single/return, railcards?

    What prices did you get?

I stuck in random dates and times and cheapest return was £17.50.

Is your final destination in London near Euston or do you also need onward travel e.g. Underground?

    Where abouts in zone 4?
Could be Wembley or could be Woolwich or Richmond - totally different.

Where in London, on what Date /Time is your journey Outward and Return It can be cheaper if you have to use the Tube, to book to a B.R. station then the Tube is free to use as an add on.

Such as I travel Bristol to Fenchurch Street for £21.95 I get off at Paddington and dont bother with the Tube but it's cheaper than booking to Paddington, where I have to get off the train anyway.
  • sorry Richmond
  • From MK to Twickenham/Richmond at 7.40-7.55am return 16.30pm Monday to Friday

It's cheaper to avoid Central London.

A Milton Keynes <> Richmond Anytime Day Return route "NOT VIA LONDON" is £44.70. You'd need to change trains depending on times, for example:

07:47 Milton Keynes Central [MKC] to Harrow & Wealdstone[HRW] 08:34
    08:42 Harrow & Wealdstone [HRW] to Willesden Junction[WIJ] 08:57
09:08 Willesden Junction [WIJ] to Richmond (London) [RMD] 09:28

The annual ticket for this route costs £4,820.

Note that these are not valid via Euston or other Zone 1 terminals.

The £44.70 Peak return fare is valid via Euston. Also quite pricey.

    I'd suggest:-

Milton Keynes - Harrow & Wealdstone = £32.40 Anytime Return

    +

Harrow & Wealdstone - Richmond on Oyster/Contactless = various fares from £2.40 peak single up to £6.70 peak single. There are also various day caps and weekly caps depending on zones/routes used.

There is also a 7 day Zone 2-4 Travelcard at £27.30 (i.e. £5.46 for each weekday) which might be more flexible/better VFM.
