I currently have a slow cooker winging it's way to me from Amazon, it's a morphy richards 6.5L reduced to £24.99.
I have been looking on the slow cooker recipe threads and have seen a few nice recipes I will probably try, I was wondering can I use frozen meat and veg or not? I use to buy all my meat and veg fresh but tend to get quite a bit of frozen now/or what fresh I do buy ends up frozen.
Also I know scratch cooking is the os way and the best way but i don't have any spices or herbs and therefore end up just using the colmans/swhartz sachets, could these be used in the slow cooker?

Hi redmel,
It's best to defrost meat before putting it into the slow cooker, because if you use it frozen it will take much longer to warm up, therefore leaving your meal at the the temperature when bacteria are likely to multiply for much longer.
You can use colmans/swhartz sachets in the slow cooker. I don't use them as I find it cheaper to buy herbs etc but I know others do with no problems.
I'll merge your thread into the slow cooker quick questions thread later as it helps to keep all the questions and answers together.

I am going to start building up a herb/spice collection as I would rather cook this way.
Glad to know I can use the sachets in the mean time. I thought it might be a case of defrosting meat first thank you....

I see that it is best to defrost meat before putting it in But what about frozen veg, will it just go soggy if it is in the slow cooker for 8 hrs, or will it be ok???
