Fresh party food ideas

Options
I've organised a small birthday party for my 2 year old next week (very small - 7 adults, 3 kids). I am providing lunch for the kids and have asked adults to sort themselves out (no complaints there). I was also going to put some party rings and Oreos in a bowl for the little ones to pick at if wanted and that's it (obviously I have also got a birthday cake) so I think this will be fine.

I was considering putting out a couple of snacks for the adults but can't decide what. Nothing frozen or hot as party is away from home so no freezer or cooker available. Maybe something chilled? Any ideas?

Are you looking for 'finger food' for the adults?

    Savoury Suggestions:

Mini Cocktail sausages - with ketchup or BBQ sauce if you wanted a dip.

Frittta - any left over veggies you have, plus some chopped ham, sliced cooked potato or cooked pasta - pop into a frying pan, pour egg over and cook ...let it cool and slice into squares or fingers when cold and store in fridge

Samosas...or the family favourite I have mentioned here on OS before...Toasted sandwiches (Breville type) filled with curry (minced beef or veg) ...let them cool thoroughly and they will keep overnight in the fridge.

All the above can be packed in cool bags on the day and will stay nice and fresh.

    Sweet Options:

The Oreos would probably be a popular choice for adults as well as children!

    Fruit

    For the Children:

Just a thought....party rings and Oreos will be popular, but are packed with sugar (also , don't know about Oreos, but party rings are not suitable for vegetarians, just in case you have vegetarian children to cater for)...and some children prefer a savoury option for a snack.....maybe go for one sweet and one savoury option?....and would fruit be possible as a healthier snack?

Thanks for the reply. I have organised a healthy lunch box for the kids but just wanted to put out a small bowl of treats for after they,ve had their lunch if they
    want it.

I think if you have told the adults to sort themselves out most will have eaten before or have meal plans for after so I think some nice biscuits to have with a cuppa or some crisps & dip if it's soft drinks would cover it.

Are you giving the adults tea and coffee? If you are then something to go with that would be more than adequate. Biscuits, small cakes, scones with jam and cream.

Carrot sticks and humous? Doritos and salsa/dip? I wouldn't do too much, if you've said to sort themselves out with lunch.

Maybe some grapes and mini rice cakes for the small ones, and carrot & celery with hummus & taramasalata for the grown-ups.

Grapes are a real choking hazard for kids that age unless they are cut into half, especially if they will be running around

No reason why the toddlers couldn't also have carrot sticks and dip however or mini bread sticks or cucumber batons along side the rice cake

You are expecting adults to have eaten before they come so you don't want to be feeding them?

That's grand. Unless the party is at their tea time when the munchies will kick in ( I've been known to snaffle the cocktail sausages at a kids party )

Adults, chuck out dips and dippy things like Pringles , bread sticks and if you want to do healthy, veggie sticks. Nuts and those savoury cheese shape things that are a £1 a bag are good as well

Not sure how you expect a party for a child to be ( no disrespect) but here most parent like a glass of wine or a beer and starchy nibbles to of lay it

Yes you have read this wrong - I stated in my post that have said that I will provide lunch for 3 little ones and I asked the adults how they would feel about providing their own lunches (one has dairy intolerance, one is vegetarian etc so would be easier if they sorted themselves) to bring with them and all were more than happy to do this. It is only an early afternoon party for a couple of hours so not really an evening thing where they may have expected to get fed. It's got nothing to do with me not WANTING to feed them. So no disrespect but maybe read the post before you get on your high horse.

Re: alcohol - the party is being held at a petting farm (so not our own home) and the owners have politely stated that alcohol is not allowed.

To everyone else - thanks for the helpful replies.

Having chatted to adults since it appears, without me having to say anything, that all have sorted their lunch and are happy with that and a slice of birthday cake so I don't think I will need to provide anything else food wise though I will be taking some extra soft drinks for adults and squash for kids.
