Higher Salary v Travel Costs

Hi all,

I'm looking for jobs (all of similar type) both locally and in London. Jobs in London pay 60k but travel is 450 per month whereas jobs locally pay 50k but 100 travel per month. After tax and travel, the net take home pay is identical.

My question is, when getting a mortgage would i be able to borrow the same or do the banks prefer a higher salary in terms of borrowing amount? I have tried the calculators and basically with 60k and 450 travel i can borrow £290k whereas with £50k and 100 travel i can borrow £237k.

Are these calculators accurate as it seems a bit silly to me?!

Try to put a little more accurately,
    It is too confusing.

I don't know the answer, but the situation and question seem perfectly clear. Not sure on the comment above unless you edited the original post.
