Change of pay rates - salary

Hi, can you just put my head around this please

I changed my contracted working hours on the 30th of the month so was paid full time up to the 30th and then part time for the 31st.

If I was being paid my new rate for the full month it wouldn't have confused me so much. I have checked employer policy and salary is calculated by dividing by 12 and then by 7.

I know that I do not work 365 days a year and it makes sense to me that this is the way that a monthly salary is calculated but my payslip shows that for the one day on 31st I was only paid £33 for the day.
And thats the bit that I cant get my head around.

Looking at it on face value I earned less than the minimum wage for the one days work.

Can you convince me that I earned more than that for my 6 hour day please

And how is anyone going to do that when they don't know what your salary or deductions are?
  • In my place of work, annual salary divided by 12 to give a monthly salary. If I take an unpaid day off in the month they work out a daily rate - monthly salary divided by the number of days in the month and deduct this day rate (so an unpaid day off in February means a greater loss to me than an unpaid day off in march). Is it possible that your company have worked out day rates by this method?

if they are dividing a weeks pay by 7 and only deducting one day then that is great if you work less than 7 days.
