CCi Credit Management troubles

Hello,
A person I know has received a threat letter from CCi Credit management over an alleged debt that arose from being treated in a hospital as an Overseas Visitor.
We believe there was a mistake made because they were not an overseas visitor but a home country address was put on the form and therefore the 700 pound charge arose. The company has given them 3 days to pay up or they would be reported to home office and allegedly arrested at the next border crossing attempt.
When we wrote to explain by email they replied that in order to communicate with us they must have the full name, date of birth and current address (even though they wrote to us themselves). I just want to be cautious and want to ask, should we provide them with these details? I know how debt collectors can manipulate personal data to their advantage. Is it safe to call these collectors or should we rely on emails? Thanks

The answer is neither.
Any and all communication should be in writing only, name, address etc is all pretty standard stuff in a letter.
If you are accused of anything to do with money or debt, respond only in writing, firstly its the only recognized legal form of disputing a debt, and second it gives you a paper-trail, and evidence of whats been said or agreed.

Ok, but the letter would come to them way past the date that we've been given, is that ok? Also, should we contact the hospital?0

There deadlines are totally meaningless rubbish !!
Designed so that you are panicked into contacting them.
Please remember these letters are computer generated and are designed for one simple purpose, which is to get money out of you.
These people have no more power than you or I do, but they like to exaggerate there powers at every opportunity.
Send your dispute letter, include copies of evidence if you can, and respond to whoever is writing to you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
