Dealing with Wescot / RBoS

Options
Hi All,

I was hoping to negotiate a full and final settlement with Wescot for a debt with RBoS. However, they have stated the below in their email to me:

"Having checked these accounts, regrettably there are no settlements available on these accounts. This is due to criteria outlined by our client The Royal Bank of Scotland Plc."

This suggests they are only managing the account on behalf of RBoS, is this normal or are they just bluffing?

If this is correct would I be within my rights to ask them for their contact within RBoS who I can then try and negotiate with directly on the assumption that if I come to an agreement with RBoS they will simply instruct Wescot to accept the agreement?

Many thanks,

SF

Wescot will only be managing the account for RBoS. They have not bought the debt. For us even the sort code and bank account number we pay did not change from RBoS.

You are within your rights to contact RBoS directly and make a settlement offer. However, - I've tried a few times and they just don't want know.

As said above, wescot only manage debts for banks, they play no part in this equation at all, you do not even have to deal with wescot, they have no power, as they do not own the debt.

You have three choices, you can ask RBS if they will accept a deal, or option 2 is to stop paying altogether, let them sell the debt on, then negotiate a deal with the new player, or continue as you are.

Those are your options, the rest is up to you.

I doubt if trying to deal with RBOS would work. Why would they pay Westcott to work for them and then do the work themselves?

Thats perfectly true, RBS have no interest any longer in these accounts, thats why they outsource them to debt collectors, but the OP should at least try, if only to tick it off the list as a bad idea.

I just made a settlement agreement with wescot. The balance is £637 and £480 was accepted. The debt was from a catalogue they had had for a long time. Maybe the length of time makes a difference too? I'd contact the original creditor but having done that myself they said they couldn't help. Its worth a go though if you have the cash to pay them that's preferable to it dragging on for years.
