Brokers - Worth their weight....

I'm talking about my own experience here but I couldn't have got my mortgage offer without my wonderful broker. Yes, I paid him a fee but he was worth every penny. Always there with a quick response to emails, speedy turnaround service, very efficient and most importantly I got approved!
Now, Conveyancers... well that's another story!

As cheesy as this sounds, I genuinely love my job as I do feel like I make a difference. I have had people declined by banks and other brokers who have all but given up. When I get to make that phone call to say the Mortgage has been offered I still get that buzz.
My favourites are the ones where I get to say in a really pessimistic voice, "I am really sorry but the underwriters have assessed your application" and then in a happy voice "and your Mortgage has been offered!!!!" - they are the best bits of the job.
Congratulations.
And conveyancers you are right. They tend to be good or bad, there is no middle ground with them.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. During the process I was really unhappy with my broker. But I got accepted for the first mortgage I applied for...what more could I want? Worth every penny in the end

Same !! I think mine was worth every penny and then some as well - after i got over myself and realised he knew his stuff , ill forever be greatful for taking the weight off and for staying calm in what must be a pretty stressful job
I agree conveyencers well....i have no words0 -
I feel exactly the same, brokers are worth every penny if you pick the right ones. I choose ACG above and he was the best and will always remember the day he call to say the mortgage was approved. I had a few beers after that. Keep up the good work ACG.0

Completely agree. Our broker has been brilliant and well worth his fee.
To begin with I was in 2 minds whether to go for someone local to us or use the bigger companies like L&C who don't charge a fee. Rang L&C and within 5 minutes the guy was doing my head in. I had loads of questions and he was so dismissive and rude. I ended up hanging up on him and made an appointment with someone local. 2 weeks later we had our offer. Can't praise the guy enough!0 -
Only worth the money if you need them. Unusual employment, poor credit etc
If you are a boring PAYE employee who fits every lender's criteria and no negative history, then it's a waste of money.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I called L+C a month before going with a smaller broker. They told me I'd only have a chance around June time and then only with a sub prime lender.
My local one got me a mortgage with nationwide at a great rate and £500 cashback.
Moving in 2 weeks time

As naive FTB's one of whom is self employed, we went for a local broker and she has been fantastic, getting us approved straight away (also with nationwide...looking forward to that £500 cashback!) no fee and nothing was too much trouble for her. We also hit the jackpot with our conveyancer too..quick, efficient and easy to get hold of

I'm having the opposite experience! I want a broker because i don't feel confident enough to go solo although i have a banking background and deal with mortgages alot! He hasn't responded to me. put us with BOI despite a late payment less than a year old (OH paid less than min payment in aug 2016) amd from what i've read there a strict lender.
I have no idea what to do, i can't afford fees for a broker as the house i'm buying needs a lot of work and every penny counts and most here are £500+ in fees... did you have to pay the fess upfront?0 -

Ditto, we have the nationwide one with £500 cashback (which I totally forgot about till I saw you write it!)
I love my mortgage broker! Me and my Hubby are FTB are honestly were very wary of applying for a mortgage and the whole process even though we have pretty good credit history etc so decided it was worth going to a broker. He has been fantastic the whole way through not only with our mortgage app and helping us pick a mortgage that was a great fit for us but has also been on hand for other advice on the house buying bits too.Swagbuckling since Aug 2016 - Earnings so far.. £55.0
