One of our favourite recipes is for a Burrito rice bowl. It gives us 3 portions-DH has 1.5 and I have 1 with a half portion for lunch. We usually have it with pork loin steaks, but works fab with leftover meat too :D

On saute heat pot, add 1 tbsp oil, if using pork steaks sear now, if not saute :
    1 chopped onion.
    1/2 butternut squash chopped
    2 cloves garlic

after few mins when soft add 1tbsp chilli powder, 1/2 tsp cumin seed, deglaze with 1/2 cup stock/water
then 1 cup rice, drained & rinsed can of black beans 1 cup water, and 1 can of chopped tomatoes (don't stir them in) (cups are IP cups, not american cups)

If you are using leftover meat stir it through with the rice, if not lay the pork chops back over the top, set to manual and cook at high pressure for 7 mins. Serve with grated cheese, jalapenos, sour cream/yoghurt, avocado, lettuce & lime, or your choices of these.

    DH wants this every week!

    I'm debating :o

I have a slow cooker, and a three tier steamer, and a rice cooker, and I never use the rice cooker or the steamer because I have too much 'stuff' on the surfaces :rotfl:

I use the slow cooker about once a week for gammon, soup or mince based meals.

I'm debating a instant pot because then I could pass on the, from the 70's, solid (read heavy) slow cooker (and the rice cooker and steamer) and have just one thing on the counter I could use for all three things and free up the cupboard space.

Plus the delay cook timer is persuasive, and it's online at less than £100. :money:

    But...

We don't really want/need a 6 litre one and it'd take back a lot of the saved space (but would only be the one socket I guess).

Anyone know if there's anything out there at around 3 litres that acts as a combi pressure cooker/slow cooker?

I had a 6 litre slow cooker back when I was broke and it was kindly given to me when I was setting up in a flat. As soon as I had a choice I got my current smaller version from a chazzer and passed on the 6 litre to a friend.

Large volume encourages me to cook more and then we either get sick of it, abandon it to the depths of the freezer, or throw it out... :(

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Argos have pressure King pro model that is 3 litres, (says that it will steam food but doesn't come with a steamer tray)
  • Hi I appreciate the replies so far on this thread .
I've done a search of the forum and can't find a thread that gives feedback on the Instant Pot so thought I'd see if anyone could give their opinions it would help me stop dithering over whether to get one or not .

I've read online reviews but trust the OSers to give unbiased views .
    polly :)

My sister has an IP that she let me use for a couple of weeks last year and I fell in love!

However, I didn't like the price. I put off buying one and did a lot of research and ended up snapping up a Tower branded 6 litre digital pressure cooker (Model T16005). It was over half the price of the IP.

I grabbed mine when I saw it reduced to £44.99 at Dunelm (This was around the beginning of this summer) but I have seen them on amazon too.

I haven't really noticed much difference between the two during cooking (ok, the buttons may not be quite as intuitive on the Tower) but maybe someone else could add an opinion.

Either way...they are a great addition to any kitchen! I am still in love!
  • Thank you Captain Bluebear . The IP is pretty well half price on the big A site at the moment . Still not cheap but I've wondered how people had found using it . I'll check out the Tower Digital Pressure cooker too as I wasn't aware of that .
    polly.
