Boyfriend about to sign IVA - anyone heard of the Debt People?!

They are saying the IVA is free and I know that's not possible. They've explained they get their money from the insolvency company.

Has anyone dealt with them?
I think they're based in Manchester.
He spoke to a guy called David.

Help please before he signs anything!

Thanks.

And that should tell you all you need to know about the debt people.

Personally I have never heard of them, but I do know how an IVA works.

IVA's are never free, they have to be set up by an insolvency practitioner who will draw his/her fees from the pot of money you make your payments to.

If it sounds dodgy, go elsewhere, there are plenty of IP's to choose from.

I have never heard of them but i would guess 90% of all my blocked numbers on my phone have a Manchester code due to the random scamming PPI, accident claims, pension advising, debt managers etc !!!!!! cold callers. Hope its not one of those he is with.

    Hi

I agree that it’s best to seek independent advice before signing up to an IVA. There will always be fees involved somewhere, so IVA providers may not be entirely impartial when advising on which is the best option for someone to take.

Tell him not to do it. IVAs are not free, they should not be entered into without proper advice. I have never heard of the Debt People but it sounds like a concern he should not be dealing with. Stepchange are the people he needs to contact.

According to the FCA register, the Debt People is one of the trading names of Money Plus. They've had various interirm permissions to do various consumer credit related things, but I have to admit I get a bit lost in the FCA's jargon.
