Jobs you are better doing yourself than hiring others.

Could we come up with a list of tasks that are relatively easy to do and shouldn't require hiring a freelancer or similar? I suppose there are a number of jobs which a businesses should do themselves but don't. Proofing may be a grey area, for example.

Converting a PDF to a Word document.

Creating a Spreadsheet.

Do people really hire a freelancer for "creating a spreadsheet", or do they hire them for the domain knowledge and business logic built into that sheet? I'm not sure I really understand the question?!

Surely these tasks are so simple you wouldnt hire anyone to do this, 20 minutes and a youtube video would give you enough skills to do these.

If you need a YouTube video to do these tasks you may need a freelancer. How skilled is the average manager?

If you have never used excel to do a spreadsheet before, using a youtube video to learn how to use it does not mean you need a freelancer, if you have half an ounce of intelligence.

Well.. there's 'a spreadsheet' and 'a nicely automated VBA scripted spreadsheet'

Although I still don't know why I can write VBA and automate Excel like a don, but I can't figure out how a vlookup works
  • You can just save a Word document as a PDF; it's one of the built in format options. If people are hiring people to do this I want in on it.

If that's the case then lets split the work load 50/50 ?
