  • Forgot to mention , I'm going for a bath/shower again .:)
Seems more practical and realistic . Initially , a walkin shower appealed but the space would still be awkward .

Not sure I know very much about renting as I never have. Youngest has for last 10 years or so and luckily has had good landlords/ladies (apart from one). Have been trying to look into things for eldest if she moves out but it seems a bit of a minefield.
Hope the bathroom works out ok, and the painting sounds good. My house is completely neutral (cream rather than white) except I had 4 strips of brick-effect wallpaper put up by the table in the kitchen just to give it a bit of definition. I remember we had brick effect wallpaper when I was a kid in the 60's but I have to say the design is much better than back then. I just brighten it up with curtains and cushions and swap them over for summer/winter. Another good thing with my louvre shutters on the front windows is that they hide the dirty windows. The back however are french doors leading onto the garden (in both kitchen and living room) and get full sun which shows the dirt up no end. Not too high on my list of priorities I'm afraid (after all there are books to be read) but expecting visitors this week so really ought to make an effort.

She asked if we could sort out next months rent.
I'm contracted till 30 may, but looking at the paraphernalia ,
I'm paid up,till April . ( why do these Lettings people make things complicated ?)
I asked if it was logical to give next payment on 30 April and cease tenancy on 30 may. ..I suppose I may have to be careful, as i paid a deposit and of course want that back . I assume I pay the letting agent , and not her direct? Advice is much appreciated

    Thanks

Well, you'll need to pay the rent for May, and I'd pay whoever you've paid the rent to so far.

Does your tenancy actually end on the 30th, or the 29th? If you started the tenancy on the 30th, it would normally end at midnight on the 29th.

If you're not sure how to do things, the house buying/renting/selling board on here is full of knowledgeable people, including landlords (the guy with the username G_M is a very helpful landlord who has posted lots of guides about renting) so I'd post there if I were you.
  • Thanks for that gigervamp :)
    Will look into that

Things moving quickly for you AC. You're a man who doesn't hang about! Hope you got a good deal on the bathroom - are you choosing the fixtures and fittings, flooring and tiles etc? Bet you can't wait to see it all done, the flat will look brand new by the time you move in.

What's your concern with paying the final months rent?

Re the rent see if the landlady will be flexible with a moving out date might suit you to move slightly earlier and it will help her get a new tenant in too. Say you move out in the third week of May she then refunds you a weeks rent. I think that's what she meant of course you pay like you have been so far no difference if you're with an agent you pay them. Don't stress about it.

Just spotted quidco 6% offer for bath store and thought of you AC. Depending where you decide to source bath/shower etc might be worth checking out. Hope you're enjoying the bank holiday - sunny here so dog will be walking out soon whether he likes it or not 😁

Grey, miserable and cold here, but am about to set off for a walk. I will get fit and healthy....if it kills me.:rotfl:

Have done lots of decluttering, even managed to inspire DS2 and he tackled his stuff too. His room actually looks like a bedroom and less like Paddys market.;)

    Going to tackle paperwork later.

DS1 got his sanitary ware from Bathstore. Very nice and a good price too. Tiles from an independent tile store, using the plumbers discount.

Now I'm unsure of suggesting this but......

If you are having ceramic or porcelain floor tiles it might be worth considering stumping up for underfloor heating in the bathroom and maybe even the kitchen. It would probably have to be electric rather than adding it to the existing gas system.

DS2 and I skimped and I wish we hadn't. When DS1 did his bathroom I advised him to consider it. It only cost an additional £500 (and it's a big bathroom). Only the other night DIL said I'm so glad we took your advice and went for the underfloor heating, it's is so warm and cosy underfoot. Well worth paying that bit extra.

DS2s bathroom has fully tiled walls and floors and it can feel quite chilly despite having a full lengthl radiator/towel warmer.

On my next move I will definitely have underfloor heating in the bathroom and probably less wall tiling.

I think you are right to keep the bath. I know there may well come a time when we are too decrepit to climb in and out of a bath and we will have to make do with showers but for now I do love a soak in the bath.

I remember my mum saying how much she missed having a bath and that one of the things she did like about the nursing home was that they had baths with hoists etc so her big treat was a soak in the bath. Same with my husband.

Before he went into the nursing home I had a bath lift fitted for him and the carer and I would help him so he too could still enjoy a soak in the bath.

It's the little things.......bubbles, candles, music. . The glass of wine is optional but adds to the general decadence. :D
  • Wow ! A nice gatheiting here on bank holiday Monday :)

I thought I was done with soaps, but the bathroom says I'm not .

Good advice about the underfloor heating . I'll mull it over.

The bathroom will be about £5 k , give or take .
First payment tomorrow of £700, for purchasing the essential stuff.

I know it may not seem mse, but I'm letting james get everything and all I have to do is choose the right colour scheme , size of tiles , type of taps / shower etc. and leit him do the rest .
He never gave me a quote for disposal of the old manky stuff as he is doing that free. For the price I'm paying and for what seems to be a nice bloke and very professional with it , then I'd rather let him buy the stuff and let him crack on with it .
I've just gotta make sure I choose the right colour scheme :)
At the moment ,it's beige wall tiles and a cappuccino effect flooring .
As there's no window, I think the brighter the better . Was thinking cream flooring, but with the rest of the flat ( 99%) white the flat could look, like a mental institution .

Good luck with the decluttering LL.

Thanks tall girl, that makes sense what you said . The landlady is due later, but I'm off to Poole now . :)

    Thanks :)

    Hi copperjar :)
I suppose I have to pull my finger out , as there isn't much time technically . Gotta finish painting , then get new carpet , then furniture etc. I've been plodding along , but it's good to keep myself on my toes iyswim ;)
