Sick note

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can provide some clarity for me... I was signed off work with stress and depression 6 weeks ago and my current sick note is due to expire on good friday. I work in retail and hence Saturday is a normal working day. The doctors is closed on good friday. Do I have to go to the Dr the day before or do I wait until Drs reopen on Tuesday (regardless of the sick notes outcome)? I'd rather not go the day before it runs out. Gives a bit longer for the antidepressants to work. Thanks

One extra day isn't going to make a huge difference to your medication. If you're going to try and get another sick note go on Thursday.

If you go on Tuesday and would have normally been expected to work the Saturday, you currently have no 'excuse' not to go to work.

It makes little difference if the doctor is willing to issue another sick note and backdate it to when the current one expires (assuming they are still allowed to do that).

However, if the doctor doesn't think a new certificate is appropriate then you are absent without leave on the Saturday and at least part of the Tuesday.

It would be far better to see the doctor on the Thursday. I fail to see why that is such a problem?

I suspect that if you want another sick note the doctor will write you one. Phone work the day before your current one runs out and say you will not be in for the next week and then see the doctor as soon as you can. Doctors are able to backdate a sick note if it is for a condition they have previously seen you for so you should be ok.
