Tooth whitening on sensitive teeth

My teeth are sensitive to hot/cold/sweet sensations.
I would like to have them professionally whitened but wondered if it is possible?
I have an appointment with the hygienist in a couple of weeks and will ask her, but in the meantime I'm collecting info so that I know the pitfalls.x

It will need to be the dentist that has to assess it before giving you the proper 'ok'. Hygienists can carry it out, but only under the prescription of the dentist.
Increasing sensitivity is a risk when tooth whitening. It depends on the cause of the sensitivity though.
I have successfully carried it out with people who thought their sensitivity would be a problem - but it was fine.
Careful assessment and good instruction of the patient in what to look out for during treatment are the important things. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
If your teeth are sensitive type, i would have adviced you to try a mixture of lime and baking soda. since these products could have and effect on your sensitive teeth, i will advice you dont try them at all.
I don't quite know what you're saying there, whether you're saying use this or not. BUT -
The use of fruit - especially citrus fruit - with the teeth to whiten them, especially when mixed with an abrasive powder IS A FAST TRACK TO DISSOLVING THEM AWAY!
DO NOT DO IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, WHTHER YOUR TEETH ARE SENSITIVE OR NOT!How to find a dentist.
