Expatforum or similar would be the best place to look, that's how I got a lot of info (or at least got pointed in the right direction) when I moved.
No idea what it's like taking one to the USA, but I quickly found out that import taxes alone would have made it uneconomical to take mine to Australia (ignoring the cost of shipping etc.), also the inconvenience of draining all the fluids and thoroughly steam cleaning the whole thing (thought things are probably stricter here than USA in that respect). That's also ignoring the fact that you'll be driving on the wrong side of the road in your case too.
Unless it's a luxury, supercar or classic, it's unlikely to be worth it, in my experience.0
