Moving your car in finance abroad

Options
Hello folks,

I have a Vauxhall corsa in finance and I am wondering if Ivan take this car with me abroad. I have now moved to the United States and am considering shipping it. However, I'm not sure if General Motors finance will allow me taking my car to the states. Do you think that after two years of payments , all regular and in full the finance company will allow me to move this car abroad? I'm willing to continue payments as they are just brexiting! Or do I have to ditch it? Has anyone had a similar issue before? Thank you.

What are the shipping costs versus selling it here clearing the finance and buying another car in the states?

If you carry on with the payments how would they find out?

Along with the shipping costs are there any other costs involved ? This should be part of your research.

Here's a novel idea: Ask them.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
  • shipping costs are 1500 pounds that's ok. You can't get a car in finance in the usa at 140 dollars a month, an equivalent of what Im paying in the UK. besides I love my corsa. It's a good car. super efficient!
How would they find out? well, by default all you get are registration papers, I guess they have the deed of ownership so no shipping company would allow me without it but that is just a guess.
  • think I have to ask Arnold clark directly.

Are there any costs involved in making a RHD European territory vehicle road legal in the US - e.g. the lights?

Would the car require american plates or would the uk ones be ok ?

What about the tax issue if they have 1 ?

Just 2 things to think about.

Maybe you should ask on a US based forum re the costs involved.

Depending on which part of the States you're going to, your corsa would probably come nowhere near the emission standards required. In California, you'll get hit with a fine if you fart with your window open.

  • It sounds like way too much hard work just to get your car over to the USA.

However, I know nothing of the car market in America- is the cost of a 2nd hand equivalent so onerous that it works out better to bring a car over with you?
