Yes - the double cream thing was a bit of a puzzle but (thanks to penelope penguin) I now know it's 35% fat - maybe I can just use it as double cream.
Was getting a bit confused thinking should I take a measurement of it before or after I whipped....
anyway, just tasted the lemon tart and it's fine!
One of the things I find confusing here is types of things - eg. I know the word for fish, but not the different sorts. Can recognise salmon or tuna but then they start to look a bit similar and these sorts of words aren't in the dictionary! Now I can see why pictures come in handy...
Just yesterday in the supermarket I saw (I think) the full monty celery - root (celeriac??), with attached celery and leaves.
I have to say I have resigned myself to getting a good cup of "builders" tea only at home (am always stocked with PG and fresh milk) as there is usually only that koffiemelk when you're out and about (not a big fan). The teabags are usually too weak, so I have a cup without milk.
Unfortunately I'm a sucker for chips with mayo. They have one called "oorlog" (meaning "war") where half a tub of mayo and a big blob of peanut sauce battle it out over your chips......sounds disgusting but unfortunately I love it!!0 -

nope, celery and celeriac are two different (but related) plants.. if you saw a really really ugly knobbly root.. that's celeriac. Celery doesn't have that huge knob at the base, as i understand. (could be wrong though). I know celeriac - i'm growing that in the garden!I have to say I have resigned myself to getting a good cup of "builders" tea only at home (am always stocked with PG and fresh milk) as there is usually only that koffiemelk when you're out and about (not a big fan). yeah. I've noticed this with my OH too. when they drink tea it tends to be weak and without milk - they're very fond of flavoured teas too, at least, my in-law's family are. They make a lovely cinnamon tea which i've only been able to find over there.Unfortunately I'm a sucker for chips with mayo. oh god i love the mayo. I adore the mayo. we usually have to bring a couple jars home from the supermarket. its not a patch on uk mayo (sorry to all the Hellman's fans out there). OH has introduced me to quite a few of the various fastfoods in the netherlands (including Febo) and so far i've loved most things! What really surprised me was chinese food over there: it tastes quite different to the chinese food you get in the UK. you'd think it'd all be the same.. chinese being chinese, but nope.
About the only one i haven't tried is indonesian. And that's cos going "out" for indonesian is regarded as sacrilege in OH's family - MIL learned from her family but also from her grandmother in law (basically all the women married to men in my OH's main family have learned to cook indonesian food, all passed down from this little old lady who is my OH's great-grandmother!) - frankly, she cooks is *so* much better than any takeaway place could do!
