Happy Friday everybody - I wanted to share my good news with you all and to say not to give up when you're looking for work!
I was made redundant from a reasonably long-term role in February. I had a good payout, but of course it doesn't make it up for a regular income. Also I had a holiday booked for 10 days in the middle of March which was always a bit of a stumbling block. Anyway I had 4 interviews booked the week before I went away, including a second interview for a job I really really wanted. They told me they would let me know while I was away.... and I didn't hear anything. I was disappointed but came back thinking 'ok time to get serious'.
Anyway, this morning I had a phonecall from the HR dept of the job I wanted and they have offered me the job!! So excited!! But the reason I am posting is that I'm 62, and last year had some pretty severe treatment for cancer - I'm now in remission, but 2015/16 was a little challenging to say the least, and then to cap it all with redundancy....
So to all of you out there, don't give up! If someone like me can get a job, don't let age, illness or any other issues in your life get in your way - just grab the opportunities with both hands and go for it!

Congratulations on your new job Caroline. Hope it brings you fulfilment, success and happiness after such a horrid time recently.
It really is lovely to hear your news; thank you for sharing.0 -
Congratulations. And thanks for proving that there are some really good employers out there who see past disability and age. It's easy on places like this to lose sight of the fact that most employers are actually pretty decent, or at least not bad!
Good luck with the job.0 -
Actually...... I never mentioned having cancer in any interviews. I thought long and hard about it but apart from an injection every 2 months and a 6 monthly visit to the consultant it doesn't actually affect me now. Also I NEVER put my age on applications!!
For me it's all about attitude - if you think you can... then you probably can, or at least have a damn good go! I can't tell you all how excited I am too, as it's in an industry that I hold very close to my heart, and the people I met certainly were very much kindred spirits!
Thank you all for your kind comments!0 -
Well done you :T Onwards and upwards
