Quick update on the accounts I've tried to open since starting this thread.
M&S - tried to do the £125 switch but got rejected because of bad credit rating!!! Have complained as the reason for rejection was high debt level (when I have no debt and money in the bank!!).
Nationwide - got rejected for flex plus (poor credit rating) but was allowed to open a flex basic account. Will call them next week to ask what needs to happen to open the higher interest savings account!
Tesco - opened without issue! Now just waiting for everything to turn up!
Santander 123 - Opened without issue and £20k deposited!
Halifax Clarity - mightily p1ssed off about this one! I bank with these guys and have money in my savings account earning less than FA in interest yet I got rejected because of high debt levels! Have complained from the rafters that these guys should be able to take in to consideration all the money in my savings accounts and the fact I have no debt now!!
Barclays CC - after getting the hump from Halifax I applied for this card as I need a card that charges no fees for overseas spend! Accepted and card due any day needs ow.

You should get hold of your credit reports from the three main agencies (see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/check-free-credit-report) to see how your financial situation is recorded there - it may be that your debt repayments haven't been fully updated yet, or conversely too many searches may already be visible.0

I may be wrong but doesn't opening a bunch of accounts affect your credit rating for something like 12 months? Just something to take into consideration if you're looking to take out another mortgage within 6-12 months..0

Ive tried using the money saving expert one but have run in to a brick wall. What ever the issue is the guy who supports everything from the Money Saving Expert said there was nothing that could be done to get my account opened and that was the end of the road for me.
Clear Score saying my credit rating is awesome BUT Noodle says its !!!! and I can't find a free report for Equifax.

I don't know exactly what you've seen on these sites but it's not so much about a subjective rating on a scale from !!!! to awesome (or the numerical 'score' equivalent), but what actual information there is about your debts and credit-related products. Prospective lenders aren't looking at arbitrary scores conjured up by these agencies but are interested in the relevant underlying facts so they can make their own minds up about whether they're willing to lend to you, so, if Noddle are reporting your 'rating' as !!!!, dig deeper to find out why.Clear Score saying my credit rating is awesome BUT Noodle says its !!!!
My understanding (from that MSE piece) is that ClearScore are reporting on Equifax data anyway but if you're not getting anywhere with the MSE access to Experian then go directly to Experian.0 -
I know why noodle is saying Im a worse bet than Hillary Clinton for President
Its because its still showing debt from March that I no longer have while Clear Score shows me with no debt as all the people I owed money to have been paid off.
Speaking of Which, Aim High mentioned that opening a number of accounts in a short amount of time having an adverse affect on my credit score.
Well knock me down but I received an email from Next this morning saying my credit account had been put on hold because of adverse data received from Eperian as I had a 7 searches in a very short amount of time.
Given Ive opened 4 accounts, with 2 requests rejected and a new Credit Card (with one rejected by Halifax) for overseas spending I guess owing money to no one and looking around for the best deals has come back to bite me in the backside.
Poor lady at Next got both barrels this morning! Felt stink she got the brunt of my grumpy mood
anyway, long story short I just closed my next account as its not needed anyway...well...only for lingerie for the wife!

An early response to your OP asked "Did the rant make you feel better?" but it's one thing to have a bit of a general moan to nobody in particular on a web forum and an entirely different story to abuse an innocent customer service agent who's just doing her job.Poor lady at Next got both barrels this morning! Given your previous comments about how you were "mightily p1ssed off" and "complained from the rafters" to Halifax, you might wish to calm down a bit....0 -
I agree - use it on essentials. saving lives or bringing joy & what is left let HMGov use it and take your chance at getting something back yourself in the premium bond lottery that preserves your original investment - notwithstanding inflationAndrew S Hatton0

Quick update - Halifax has replied to my complaint about being declined for their Clarity Credit card (applied so I can use it overseas without the worry of high charges). They have reviewed my application and have agreed to provide me with a card

Now for Next to send back a grovelling apology
