Wages in the horticultural industry

I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone in the industry knows if those paid hourly are paid each week or each month? Specifically in plant nurseries? I always thought it was only salaried people on a set yearly wage that got paid monthly but Ive just started a job with hourly rate and have been told payment is monthly... is this usual?

Yes, i see some that are two weekly but weekly pay is very rare. It's the cost of payroll admin, it works out cheaper to only run wages once or twice a month.0

Thanks for the info. Its a small family nursery so I assumed weekly cash in a pay packet.0

The hourly rate is probably just so you know what your pay is. Some jobs advertise by the hour / some annual salary. Very few places pay weekly anymore. As stated before its easier to do payroll once a month. Cash in hand places are the main ones who will pay you weekly in some cases that's because they don't run a payroll at all for obvious reasons.0

its more price work ... you get paid, like 50p per kilo you pick.“Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

I used to work in the offices of a care agency a couple of years ago. Us office staff where paid set yearly salaries and paid monthly. The carers were paid set hourly rates and paid weekly. Just depends on company I guess. Thanks anyway0

As low as possible - took a temp job at Xmas in an ahem call centre for such an industry which was £7.20 confirmed on first day of starting, was paid monthly even as a temp so no payroll wasn't a little thing.
Always remember in the lovely 'no pressure sales' job with the clientele of older folk, they had to make the temp who had been there 3 years permanent as he was just top on the ...up sells.
The people on the floor of this 'warehouse' nursery couldn't speak a word of English. It was all rather uncomfortable. After saying no thanks, I found newspaper articles that showed the company was actually making a very tidy profit then what they would have you believe and they deliberately would swell the operations with temps at certain times of the year. Numbers I saw were quite high compared to the level of any perm staff.0 -

Wetherspoons pay "Salaried" staff monthly, but "Hourly" paid staff are paid weekly.0
