MAT leave wages decreasing each month

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help, my wife's is currently on MAT leave and each month her wages has been decreasing, over the last 4 months there has been a £150 difference. This is the second time in two years she has been on MAT leave and even during the first leave her wages was different each month with it shooting up one month, then shot down the next month but this time it has been going down each month with the difference between Jan and Feb as massive drop. We have spoken to the employer and highlighted the issue (and have been during the first MAT leave and for months during the second), they have contacted HMRC, they said it's nothing to do with them, they said contact SAGE (who do there payroll). They are also unsure what is happening. We are now in limbo. We don't know even roughly what the next pay-day amount is going to be. I can't tell you if we have been paid too much, too little or the right amount. No one seems to know the answer. At the moment we don't want to make a complaint to HMRC, is there a "softer" approach to getting this sorted? or anywhere we can get advice.

Can you give the full details?
Taxable gross, tax,NI,deductions, taxcode and month number, for each payment. Details given as to calculation of SMP or earnings for the two months prior to the qualifying week(15 weeks before EWC on MatB1)0 -
Well apparently her TAX code has just changed, we don't know what it is yet as we are still waiting for the employer to to tell us0

This means the change could be down to tax rather than SMP or possibly both so would now need cumulative taxable pay and tax paid figures for the payslips.0 -
Would the marriage allowance have any bearing on this? Apart from going on MAT Leave this is change we have had, my wife hasn't earned over £10k per year over the last 10 years0

Our payroll provider will give a statement of how much SMP is due each month: it varies from month to month whether four weeks' worth are due to be paid, or five weeks' worth. It could be worth asking your employer if they could get that for you.
Also it's likely that in the early stages some tax will be refunded. Would that account for the drop between January and February?
As already stated, it's hard figures we need to give a definitive answer ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
We was given a statement but these have never been reflected to what we have been given, we have questioned it but just got a shrug of the shoulders.
We are waiting for copies for the wage slips so we can give you figures.0
