Care Home fees - self funder

Im not sure whether this is in the right place before I start.
My FIL has Alzheimers and is a self funder. My MIL will remain in the property. The problem is that the care homes in our area will only accept you if you can self fund for two years. He can fund for one year but then will run out of money. The care homes say they cannot accept him.
We cant be the only one in this position and due to being self funders are struggling to get any help or information on this.
FIL has currently been in respite for two months but we now wish to make this permanent.
Please can anyone help or point us in the right direction?

Contact your council. If they are going to pick up the tab in year 2 they should still be able to arrange self funding accommodation for the first year that will continue in the following years with the help of council funding.
This will also save FIL the distress of moving homes and will give you clarity about his rights.0 -
Thanks. We don't seem to be able to get advice on where to turn. It's a bit like "computer says no" whichever way we go at the moment.0

You need to get a care needs assessment for him.

Try other/more care homes. The one I ended up using wanted me to prove I had 2 years' money .... but in the rush of things... oops .... I never got round to proving it
