justme111; that's comforting to hear that this glue is pretty good. And you're right that crowns can break too. I think I need to accept that there's nothing I can do that'll last forever.

My dentist only mentioned crowns/veneers when I kept questioning him about how long the filling would last and if it was permanent etc. He seemed surprised that I asked. I think he was just giving me all the options but he seemed confident that this new filling would be fine. I'm sure if he thought crowns were the best option right now, he'd have suggested it first.

I think for now I'll just see how it goes and try to calm down enough to eat. Any more issues, and I'll get this one crowned at least. Maybe both. I'd prefer not to have to drill into them again for the time being.

I really appreciate the advice. I wish I'd never bit into that stick of rock!

Well , when I say "the glue is pretty good" it is very simplistic:). There are different brands of "glues", some better some worse but overall indeed all pretty good.
Whether glues potential will be realised in your case depends on operator' handling of it. Many minor details like length of the time the glue bottle stays opened, pressure dentist uses on a brush, how and what he prepares the tooth with before placing a glue, power output of the lamp they set it with, rubber dam used or not ( I could list them for hours probably:D) influence whether it is going to fall out 2 days after or outlive you.
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

To be fair no glue in the world is going to hold a front filling in if you bite a stick of rock with it.
Patients with fillings such as these are warned not to bite fingernails , sellotape, thread etc with the front tooth. The same for veneers which can also break under these sort of strains. I have seen people break their natural teeth in this way and untouched teeth are far stronger than fillings or crowns.

I broke the edges off both my top incisors during an accident. I had them filled with composite and it broke off within a couple of weeks. However, the second time my dentist thickened the repair by adding filling material to the back of the tooth. It has been in place for many years and I eat same as I ever did. So it can work long term in some situations. I'm not sure how long it will last, maybe it will be years more, maybe tomorrow. I guess that's true for real teeth too. In this situation, I'm letting it be until I need to however. The key question that helped me decide if I should do anything more than a filling was asking my dentist - if the filling comes out, will I need even more work, or will I just be back where I started? I felt the answer to this made the options clearer.
