    Hi all,

I haven't posted here in a long while but I remember there was a thread if I'm not mistaken to do with 'going self managed' with your DMP.

If not I've forgotten the steps to going self managed; Could anyone help me with this or point out where to get started?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Its very simple to do, you work out your budget, and what you can afford to pay towards your debts, then you write to each creditor telling them you are self managing your own DMP from now on, tell them what they will be paid, and when.

There are some websites that you can download budgeting software from (January is your girl to help with that), but basically its just a case of obtaining all the creditors payment information, storing the details in online banking, and making the monthly payments.

Simple job really, also been more pro-active puts you more in control over what happens, its a good move.

So basically the steps going self managed are:

    1) Write to step change to say I’m going self managed
    2) Write to all creditors saying I will be going self managed and also asking for their payment information?

Would I send all creditors my I&E with step 2?

I’m guessing monthly payments can be done by standing order from my current account.

    Thanks again.

Another vote for NEDCAB for starting down the self managed route :)
DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j
  • I too used the NEDCAB website when I went self managed (after one month with stepchange!)
    It's been so helpful
  • Another NEDCAB user here too:T

Once you have your creditors' payment details it's a good idea to pay them by SO. That's one of the many pieces of great advice I took on board from January and others. That way it's always YOU who are in control of how much money is paid each time;)

    Good Luck, spiffyiffy:beer:

I knew I wasn't going to be making much headway this year due to a leaky roof and a broken car but it's just dawned on me that the money I've saved to get a new roof would have cleared my 3 littlest debts!!!

At least I'm staying positive and this time next year.......
    LBM.....sometime in 2013 £27,056. 10 creditors
June 20.....£7,587.....3 creditors left 72% paid

£26,200 on interest only part of mortgage (July 16)...will chip away £17,103
    £49,200 repayment mortgage ( July 16) £37,764

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend and has the bonus of some lovely weather:beer:

After sending off my CCA requests to 5 creditors (using the National Debtline templates) I have had speedy responses from all but one of them. The companies who were unable to provide the details themselves have informed me that they have asked the original creditor for the required information. So far so good:T

I received a letter yesterday from Westcot who returned my PO (no harm done, I didn't fill in the 'Payee' details so it's still reusable:j). They have obviously not 'bought' the debt but are just collectors. They say:

......our client has requested that you write to the following address and state in your covering letter that this is a section 77/78 request and enclose a £1.00 postal order......

This relates to a MINT credit card issued by RBS around 1999 which I hope turns out to be unenforceable.

I assume it's just them not being particularly helpful as I believed that CCA requests were supposed to be directed to the current collector of the debt rather than the original creditor. All paperwork I have received about this debt for the past 3 years has stated that all communication in relation to it should be made to Westcot!

Am I reading too much into this please?
  • Letter from MBNA yesterday - they have upheld our complaint!!!! :j

Total amount of PPI refund plus interest = £1559.48

So chuffed I found that old loan letter in the bottom of a drawer - gutted that the car needs even more repairs but at least we can pay for these outright :)

    Happy days!!

Quick query from that NedCab site; I'm guessing we can tailor the letters afterwards to suit what we want to write? As I want to add in there when I want to finish with Step Change etc.
