Had two lots of phone calls from some Indian call centre - I'm sure you know the ones.... The conversation usually starts with "I'm from Microsoft and your computer is sending out viruses...". They've changed tact and are now claiming to be from BT and I have a problem with my router.

I play dumb with these idjits and usually string them along for half an hour or so.... Have just set up a user directory and planted a couple of files called bank_login.zip and passwords.zip - Both are zip bombs that will expand in the petabyte range. Also have several infected files that Lloyds/Paypal/Fedex/UPS have sent me via email that I could stash in the home folder....

Do you think they'll take the bait and curse me when their computer goes tits up ?

I suspect you're overestimating their abilities as I've not seen them do anything beyond trying to kill the PC. I don't see the point in wasting your time stringing them along, I just hang up on them as it's not worth wasting my time.

Life's a short enough trip without filling it with all this nonsense. You need to remember that you've got a life and need to get on with it.

Has it occurred to you that by deliberately annoying them by your tactics of time wasting, your phone number is highly likely to be added to some scammers list of numbers to be phoned endlessly as retaliation.

I suggest you do as per the first reply - just put the phone down.

^^ Brilliant website, I have been in stitches reading some of their exploits over the years !!

OP : Nice idea but I wouldn't risk letting them control your pc in the first place ..
You could always spin up a virtual machine I suppose and let them control that

Just had a foreign caller call just now. Saying they were from my ISP, and they were going to shut down my connection. When I asked them who my ISP is, they said TalkTalk (I'm with Plusnet). :rotfl:

You're booby traps are more likely to hit your own computer, either through a momentary lapse of concentration, or from a curious family member.

Unlikely - The files are under a different user account, so would have log in with that user name to gain access. The only thing that the cat is interested in is chasing the cursor round the screen and wouldn't know how to open a file.

Did I mention I don't use Microsoft products (unless paid large sums of money)....

Can you do this inside a VM and let them bang their head against a VM you can rebuild/restore in a heartbeat? That way there's nothing at risk, too.
