I know you have already said you are not interested in anything else but here goes nothing..

You said "We're" so im guessing by that you mean your partner or significant other so why not each of you get a personal loan? 14k each? hell of a lot easier and quicker to obtain than one secured lot of 28k

Again i know you didn't ask for other avenues but makes more sense to me but may not to yourself.

I am not a big fan of securing anything on my property except my mortgage and i am sure the unsecured rate wouldn't be much different either if anything id expect it would be less.

That's actually not a bad idea, I didn't think a personal loan would be lower rate than secured, I just assumed a secured loan would be cheaper. I'll certainly look into that option then, or look at what flower77g mentioned and take a nationwide loan over 5 years and consolidate when we can, that's also not a bad idea if we're only intending on having it for 6 months or so.
