Regarding the games that are free with EA Access, once downloaded and within a year the subscription runs out and not renewed, will the game still work?

no, as far as I am aware you need a valid subscription to use them.

If you get to a certain point in a game and you cancel it or dont renew you wont be able to access the game but as soon as you restart the subscription your free to carry on where you left off.

As above, you can only use them while you have an active EA Access membership.
