I know this is an old thread that you've re-lifed (March 2017) but just wanted to say I've just had my very first pair of glasses (well, 2 pairs of readers plus a pair of prescription sunglasses) from Specsavers and I was very impressed with the service I received from everyone there.
    .
Only a few weeks old and I wanted to comment without starting a new thread. It must vary from branch to branch. I suspect they have some sort of inhouse 'training' scheme or something, As I said I really doubt that they are fully trained opticians. The service in the branch has been patchy at best but this one that saw me this week was the worst ever; she didn't listen/couldn't understand the answers to the scripted questions and kept asking the same thing over and over whilst tapping into her little computer. I have decided to find an old school independent optician even if I have to pay a few quid more.

Of course the optometrists are fully trained, ours by Liverpool University.

The branches are franchises and the 'floor staff' will vary. I usually ask for one of the experienced women.

The post immediately before yours was dated 24th March 2017.

We're now in 2018...hence my comment.

I was talking about the 'optometrist' if it was just a shop girl I could understand. The way she came across was as I described. Funny I didn't notice you in the room as I was receiving the poor service...

    What is 'early!!'?

I made the comment because quite often posters just read the first post and then give advice which in most cases of necroposting is a waste of their time as the OP has got the answer they need or hasn't been back on the forum since posting.
In this case both apply as the OP said she was going to go back to Specsavers and she hasn't logged on since 28th March 2017 (that's last year, by the way).

And with respect, Specsavers are only crap in your opinion. :D

Calm down dear and well done you for noticing the date; you get a very special gold star! yawning.gif Early as in early morning so I made a mistake with the date; whatevs. For your information people other than the OP view posts as it is a PUBLIC forum and not a PRIVATE journal; people google and get information from posts whenever they were originally written. It is relevant if people read it..

Yes well done again you: it is indeed my opinion as I wrote it....:T

Specsavers are not crap. I have been using them for 20 years. The opticians are polite when testing and checking my eyes, always get help with choosing frames, they have lots of choice, and they do simple repairs for me at no charge. Can't fault them. :happyhear

They are variable as they are franchises.

I have used them for much longer than 20 years and have recently moved to an area where I will not use that local franchise ever again. They insisted I 'preferred' their prescription despite me insisting I could not see distance clearly.

Previous franchise were excellent for the 10 years we lived there.

Before that we had an issue with one franchise charging swmbo 'extra' for her prescription that was only sorted with a complaint to head office in Jersey.

Last time I checked - there is no course in Optometry offered by the University of Liverpool - or John Moore University for that matter.
