Mortgage Application - Sickness

Hi,

I need some advice from someone much wiser than me! :p

We have received a mortgage in principal and have found a property we like. The property won't be ready until July.

Unfortunately my partner has been signed off sick with work related stress for the last 8 weeks. He will be starting a new job shortly and be back to work ASAP.

He has had no sickness for the previous 7 years in his job.

How will this affect the mortgage application? Should we hold off even though he will be back in work by the time the application starts to process? I'm aware lenders need 3 months pay slips etc? These will be a mixture of old and new job? (is that an issue in itself?) Some may have sickness on?

What is the best course of action?

    The main thing here isn't the sickness, it is the fact he will be seeking new employment.

    If he is able to get (and evidence), a permanent contract, with no probationary period, then options should be available with a number of lenders, however if he will have a probationary period, it may cause difficulties. It is not the case of mixing old job and new job, they will purely be interested in his new employment in terms of calculating affordability.

    Thanks for the quick reply. Will the lenders not want to see pay slips etc or will it not matter?

    Is a new job an outright block on getting a mortgage, if there is a probationary period? As with most jobs now I believe there is a probationary period (will find out for definite though).

    Is there anything way around it? (so to speak).
