Expat Mortgages

Hi all
I'm a UK expat currently working in Malaysia. I'd like to buy a property back home in England to let out but I'm having trouble finding a lender willing to give me a mortgage. The only possibilities I've found so far are HSBC (who require you to have a very large amount in an account with them before they give a mortgage) or Skipton International (who require a salary above the amount I earn). Does anyone know of any other lenders offering expat mortgages or broker who would be able to help me find some options? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

  • Hi,

I'm currently trying to do the same thing. Did you have any luck?

Find a broker who specialises in expat Mortgages. It will save you a lot of time (I say that as someone who does not do expat mortgages).

    It's a tricky market.

    It helps if:

You have paid tax in the UK in the last 5 years.

You have a couple of other items of UK credit running in addition to your current mortgage.

Also, as stated above, you need a Broker familiar with these types of cases.
