TSB loan: joint current account means must be joint loan application but not advised

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience of applying for a loan with TSB (or other banks), where if you have a joint current account then a loan application just be a joint loan application with other bank account holder.

My issue is that no where on the website was this mentioned. A check was done by the bank and again nothing was said on website (leaving soft footprint on credit history). An application was then made and not until the very last page where you agree to terms etc and enter bank details did it state you could not use a joint current account.

On contacting the bank I have been advised that a joint application would need to be made and that this application will stay on my credit history. I pointed out that no where in their website including faq's is this mentioned and now I have an application that I can't proceed with but has affected my credit report.

Advice needed

My wife and I have a joint account with Barclays and they would be happy to lend to either/both of us individually according to the amount of junk they send us. We have individual login details and, when I log in, I can't see the details of a loan she took out a while back. Neither do I have access to the mortgage details which are solely in her name.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
  • I'm having exactly the same problem - everything in joint names and no personal account. Seems to be the same with most lenders other than those with huge interest rates. Did you manage to get it sorted? and if so, how?
  • We've given up! We haven't tried any other banks as don't want to do a joint application but tsb said that was the only way to deal with it. We questioned their lack of information on this prior to application as now we have a footprint left on my husbands credit check for nothing!
  • Is the second applicant needed due to insufficient income for the first applicant?
  • No, it's purely as we only have a joint current account. We cannot make single applications?
