Stopping smoking does being hypnotized work?

Worked for my dad, back in the 1970's.

Dad was a very heavy smoker who was told by his doctor he would die in 5 years if he didn't stop smoking. So Dad went to see a specialist hypnotist several times, and never smoked again! Couldn't even stand the smell of cigarette smoke by the time his hypnosis treatment ended. He lived for another 32 years after that, and died of non-smoking-related causes at the age of 81.

So it can work really well, my dad had tried every other way of giving up before the hypnosis but only the hypnosis worked. It was actual sessions with a hypnotist rather than a self-help pack though.

Hypnotherapy can work if you really want to quit. I've just had a notification this thread has been bumped, just to update I came down with a serious bout of strep throat first week of May last year and used it as the opportunity to go cold turkey, It will be a year in two weeks since I stopped!

I once saw a hypnotist abroad performing tricks with 2 people on the stage. He was clowning about doing all kinds of stuff messing with them. At the end, the girls mother shouted "try and stop her smoking" and the guy said had she said something at the start he could have done it. Anyway, he did what he could in the remaining few minutes he had. After she awoke, someone offered her a fag and she said "I'm alright at the moment".....

No idea if it works or not, but it looked like it did with her and he barely tried.

I used hypnotherapy with a lovely lady near Manchester but you're really got to want to quit. The smell of cigarettes now just makes me feel nauseous. Now I just need to get up the courage to go back to see if she can deal with my fear of flying!!
If you're near south Manchester I would recommend her. Can remember the name of the company Lifecycle therapies but can't for the life of me remember her name.
