Train delay refund, Virgin getting difficult...

Can anyone help?
On the 28/1/16 I got on a Virgin service from Haymarket to Euston. The train got severely delayed in Carlisle. I have attempted to contact Virgin for a refund, but all I get back from them is that there wasn't a 14.00 service from that Station.
It probably departed from Glasgow or whatever. I've no idea why they're getting so anal. Any thoughts?

They aren't getting anal, they need the facts. If you can't provide them you won't get the money.
What train did you get on?
1400 from which station? Haymarket or Carlisle?
They need this fundamental information to check against the service timing records and be satisfied there was indeed a delay.0 -
It wouldn't have left Glasgow, and indeed it hardly matters where it originated.
Perhaps you mean the 14:22 from Haymarket?0 -

Haymarket. The train got subsequently delayed in Carlisle, though. It wouldn't have left Glasgow, and indeed it hardly matters where it originated.

Perhaps I do! Unfortunately I don't remember precisely the time I got on the actual train. But was there other scheduled services at around about that time (perhaps the 14.22 indeed) to Euston?0 -

That's the closest but there is not much point in looking at others if you don't know which one you were on. if you have a mobile phone which has map history turned on (like in google maps) then you may find the info you need is tracked in there.0 -
The only Virgin services to Euston on the afternoon of 23 Feb were at 1257, 1458 and 1657.
Of those these are the trains either side of 1400. Perhaps it was one of these?
1257 Haymarket to Euston
1458 Haymarket to Euston0 -
You will need to know which timetabled service it was, but it is possible that there is a problem with the Virgin Delay-Repay system that isn't helping. I had a delay on a West Coast service from New Street to Waverley and for some reason Waverley was not a valid destination on the Virgin WC D-R system, I ended up putting the claim through their East Coast system.0
