Lifetime Allowance

A friend was moaning to me that his pension is over the Lifetime Allowance, and he doesn't fancy the tax charge. (Yes, I know, we should all have such problems.)

His proposed solution is to divorce his wife, hand over half his pension as a pension share, so they are both under the LA.

Then get remarried to her, as they love each other.

Any comments?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It looks like it's not that simple (unfortunately).

Thanks so much. It just goes to show there's nothing new under the sun!

Reading your thread, there doesn't seem to be much preventing you going ahead, then later on having a glorious reconciliation. IIRC, Elizabeth Taylor married Richard Burton twice. I wonder if that was for tax reasons?

Except you wife may do a runner :-) and keep the coffee machine, SLK and the dog.
I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.

Not a big expert on divorce but would you not be required to perjure yourself, i.e., you are submitting legal documents to court based on a lie?

Maybe he could blame the fact he loves his pension more than his wife?

Oh, hang on, he'd technically be losing one and half of the other, !!!!!!!
