Hi Rosie/all, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I’ve DM’d you with more detail but pretty exact same issue as you described in your original post. Just interested to know how it panned our pardon the pun?0

Hi afeadugg.
Blast from the past here! It is just cooking oil I've realised. Builds up a lot less now as I have an airfryer and a new non stick frying pan so am using a lot less oil.
Now I only need to clean it every few months.
To clean it, I take the filter off, steep in washing soda crystals and hot water for maybe 10 mins, then pour boiling water through it. Does the job rightly.
While it is off I just wipe over the inside of the extractor fan where there is a build up and the drip occurs.

Oh, BTW, same user, different name. Was Rosie 383, now proofread100 as I got locked out and couldn't get back into my account no matter what I did!0

Thanks. Just out of interest how is your extractor vented? Is yours through the chimney or out the wall? We vented through the chimney via a lined flue up through the roof which i think is part of the issue (expected moisture). Its not an ideal set up but only option for our layout and we wanted the hob in the chimney breast. So i put this issue partly down to that but i guess if yours isnt set up like that its not the case?0
