Waitrose free coffee to require a purchase

It seems they have edited their web page due to their dubious way of obtaining a free coffee
They have taken off the video for one
The word 'trick' that they use constantly whenever they think they are saving MSEers a bob or two
trick
noun
noun: trick; plural noun: tricks
1.
a cunning act or scheme intended to deceive or outwit some
This is exactly what they are doing to Waitrose when they suggest how to get a coffee
Use different words please when suggesting savings“You’re only here for a short visit.
Don’t hurry, don't worry and be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”Walter Hagen

I was going to make a snide comment about MSE probably listing "cheapest things you can buy to get a waitrose coffee for free" but you've totally beaten me to it.... Give it another year and it'll be spend a fiver and get a coffee (still a brilliant offer!)"sometimes, i guess there just aren't enough rock" -forrest gump0

In Waitrose I often select black coffee, as soon as the coffee stops running (about 3 seconds) remove the cap and let the water run to waste. I then dispense a Latte or Cappucino into the cup. Stir well - decent strength!
Stooping to theft again! You are entitled to one free drink per day and yet you effectively take two albeit in the same cup (your own no doubt going by your previous comment!!). It is this sort of abuse of the system that has changed the rules for everyone.0 -
Today in Waitrose I noticed bananas gone up to 75p per kg from 72p. They're probably expecting bananas to be extremely popular after 3 April!0

Why are some people thinking that they are entitled to be angry about this? Why is anybody surprised?
Waitrose does not owe free drinks to their customers. It was a privilege that they offered, and when people abuse privileges, they get taken away. That's life.
Yet people continue to do so.
Pretty much rolling my eyes into a different century right now.0 -

There's no anger that I can see in this thread. Apart from that aimed fairly and squarely at this website for encouraging people to 'trick' Waitrose by buying a 3p sprout!
All the support's for Waitrose - not the cheats encouraged by MSE.
Stunts like this just discredit MSE and end up spoiling perfectly good offers for everyone, so that nobody benefits in the longer term.0 -
In my local Waitrose there is a cafe as well as the standalone machines. If you upgrade to a "large" coffee, the 30p difference counts as a purchase :money:Spidernick wrote: »My local Waitrose is the same, but is it confirmed that this will still be an option after the changes, or will you be expected to buy an overpriced scone, etc. to qualify?
I had a 30p large coffee in the cafe yesterday and the lady who served me confirmed that this option would continue after the change. I also find the quality of the coffee in the cafe much better than straight out of the machine, so may well use this option more going forward, assuming what I was told is correct.'I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my father. Not screaming and terrified like his passengers.' (Bob Monkhouse).
Sky? Believe in better.
Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)0 -
just buy a 15p gingerbread man as advised on here or some other bargain totally worth it I think!!
Think this will increase queues in the cafes as people will go there instead for a 30p coffee0 -
We are regular Waitrose customers and understand their drive to stop people taking advantage. I preferred to get the drink at the start of the shop rather than after completing the shop. We spent £125 but technically only one of us could get a coffee unless we put through one item and paid for it followed by the rest of the shopping. Well done the checkout lady who put both through but she did say they had been instructed not to do that.0

I cannot remember where I read it but Waitrose have said that as long as you both have a card and buy more than one item there is no need to split your shop. So the SA was wrong.0
