Alternative to Washing Machine Liquid For Just One Wash

Options
Hi All,

I have just one load left of washing to do and I have only a dribble of detergent left. I am unable to go out at the mo but would love to get this load done so it is out of the way.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well my nan used to put washing up liquid in when she ran out but i couldn't swear as to whether it works HTH

  • i always try and keep a few sample in the house in case i manage to run out not that it helps you now.

a few star drops in the wash would help as would soda crystals if you have them

if not then i would try a bit of grated soap or a very few drops of washing up liquid you dont want to much as it will get bubly though.

I have used shampoo in an emergency, but it's best for smaller/lightly soiled loads, you have to watch the amount because of the bubbles!
  • I shall give it a go if there are no other alternatives. I just want to see a nice clear laundry basket :p

I have Stardrops thanks to this site so I think I will do a couple of drops of that for cleanliness and a small squirt of shampoo for smelliness!

    Thanks :)

Shake up the "empty" bottle of washing liquid with a little bit of water, and pour it straight into the dispenser drawer. With the residue that is probably in the machine from previous loads, it will probably be enough, provided your washing is not really grubby. You could try washing at a slightly higher temperature, if your wash load is suitable for it.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • start drops i used the other day on some jeans i forgot i had got cooking fat down and the jeans now are spotless was quite a bit on them too i did add it neat to the stain but the rest of the washing came out fab

  • Well my load has just finished on a quick wash and the results are good. The only thing I would change is putting it on for a longer wash as a couple of stains didn't come out. Definitely good for freshening up clothes though.

i would have used any wool wash liquid if you had any. but glad you got it done
  • No liquid whatsoever. I tend to use the same liquid for all materials.

    Thanks anyway :)
