I suspect that if many wives were asked to consider a tactical divorce, a real divorce might follow soon enough :D
• I did warn her I was exploring options in case she found my google searches for what are legal grounds for divorce (tax planning isn't included).

She did say she preferred the option of a tactical divorce over returning to work ......

Although once our youngest is has turned 12 she'll have to look for some work to maintain her NI contributions towards her state pension.

Interestingly enough I just came across this in the Cridland report:
We hope the 2017 Automatic Enrolment Review will prioritise improving coverage for women, for example by giving couples the option to combine their pension savings,

That could be very helpful and would help offset another recommendation in the report which would push out when I can draw my private pension from 57 to 58. I'll not place a high likelihood on couples being able combine pensions occurring but pretty certain the increase in state pension age will.
• This may not offer much hope for those in favour of a tactical divorce...

I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.
