Reclaiming money lent to friend

Hi I lent a friend over £2000 who now lives in Saudi on a work contract and won't pay me back. I've tried citizens advice who referred me to the embassies, and also tried UK courts solicitors and legal aid but no one can help without me paying several thousands myself. Which I don't have

Any advice welcome please

    Until he returns to the UK there is not much you can do. You should write to him stating that you require repayment, in case he intends to stay in Saudi for more than 6 years. If he stays more than 6 years and has not been advised of the debt, it becomes time barred.
    If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
