Missing Endowment policy staffordshire building society

hi i am trying to track down a missing endowment policy which was arranged by the staffordshire building society.

i do not have any of the details other than it was sold to us in 1987/1988.

Is there anyway i can trace this policy

I have tried trying to locate it via the building society which merged with Portman building society, which was then taken over by nationwide but nationwide are simply saying they cannot locate it without a policy number

Does anyone know who Staffordshire building society used for endowment polices back in the late 1980's.

any advice would be welcomed

Pre depolarisation, many building societies used local agents/brokers in their towns. The insurance company used could be anyone in that case.

Have you checked bank statements from the period it was paid? That would show the insurer name.
